Breast-feeding and Donor Milk
Breastfeeding Educational Resources:
Kellymom--articles written for parents by industry professionals (mostly IBCLCs). Has associated facebook group for parent community discussion.
LaLecheLeague of Washington with meetings located in many locations across King and Snohomish Counties
Sound Beginnings Lactation Consultants: http://soundbeginningsfamily.com/
Donor Milk resources:
Ask in any other local parent-based groups. The above groups are fantastic resources but resources are in high demand. Many parents who are willing to donate are not aware there is need until asked!
Donor milk is just that...free. The buying and selling of milk is highly discouraged, as this could result in tampering with the milk to increase profits. Recipients should offer to replace storage bags as a kind gesture (and bonus points if you ask the donor what type she prefers). No other trading or gifts should be offered or expected.
Sample post requesting donor milk: "Hi! My name is Jo and I'm seeking donor milk for my 3-month-old son, Elliot. Prefer medication-free but willing to discuss. No dietary restrictions. Located in Bothell but willing to travel. Will replace bags. Thank you for considering us!"
Sample post for offering donor milk: "Hi! My name is Kate and I have 500oz in deep freeze to offer. Located in Bothell. No medications, just prenatal and daily cup of coffee. Occasional alchohol (bags marked). No dietary restrictions [or dairy-free, egg-free, etc.]. Milk is from December through February when my child was 8-10 months old. Replacing bags would be great." OR "Hi! My name is Kate and I'm looking to become a regular donor for someone in need. Located in Bothell. My son is currently 5 months old. Non-smoker, no medications. Dairy-free diet. Please be willing to replace bags."
