Ohlson Integrative Health offers Naturopathic Lactation Consultations for the prenatal or postpartum parent interested in preparing to establish a breastfeeding/chestfeeding relationship, or to troubleshoot when feeding isn't quite going as planned.

For the pregnant parent, the breastfeeding consultation includes learning the basics of lactation, anatomy, how to prepare for breastfeeding/chestfeeding after birth, what to add to your birth plan to help establish lactation after birth, and what to know so you can be prepared if troubleshooting is needed in the postpartum period.

For the postpartum parent and baby, your lactation consultation aims to address your particular challenges and goals in your feeding relationship. Often poor latch, damaged or painful nipples, poor or slow weight gain, or engorgement are common concerns we can address together. Our session typically includes weight checks for before and after a feeding session, observation of a feeding session, troubleshooting and practice during this session, and a follow-up appointment. Our goals will be to 1. feed the baby, 2. move milk, and 3. support the breastfeeding/chestfeeding relationship for both the lactating parent and the baby. Craniosacral therapy is often also included in part of the lactation session, with consent. This can help address latch by releasing tight muscles in a baby’s body, neck, head, and jaw.

Relactation or induced-lactation protocols are also an available option for our work together in supporting your lactation plan.

Many parents have questions about which drugs and herbs are safe and effective for lactation--the answer is there are many! Together we can address if these options are going to be beneficial for you, where to get high quality herbal supplements, and have a plan to use them in the most beneficial way.
